Fleet Management System from Safefreight Technology Supports Safety and Helps Lower Emissions

Edmonton, AB Canada (PRWEB) February 9, 2007 -- Fleet management and driver safety have become a whole lot easier to monitor for PowerComm Inc. with the addition of Safefreight's oilfield equipment fleet management system -- SmartFleet™. PowerComm, who provides a range of services to the oilfield across Western Canada, relies on SmartFleet™ to alert them when safety issues like speeding violations are putting their employees at risk.

"In addition to improving safety, we also wanted to get a read on how fuel use from speeding and excessive engine idling were impacting fuel costs and emissions. By using SmartFleet, we've been able to monitor speeding and idling and make adjustments that lower fuel use and costs, and subsequently reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said Wayne Rutherford, President and CEO of PowerComm. "We looked at other technologies in the market, but the one with the best value and functionality was SmartFleet," added Rutherford.

In addition to safety and environmental benefits, SmartFleet™ diagnostic sensors track key performance indicators such as engine hours, mileage and more. Milestone and threshold data are communicated to desktops in the PowerComm offices so that they can take immediate action to avoid potential problems and failures, or schedule maintenance only when it's required.

"Our SmartFleet™ system provides the necessary set of tools to help PowerComm ensure they have the information to support the efficient management of their mobile resources," said Curtis Serna, CEO of Safefreight.

In addition to having automatic vehicle location, PowerComm also use their SmartFleet™ productivity reports that summarize important asset-specific information including:

• Working hours summary
• Stop/go activity report
• Idle time summary
• Trip summary
• Trip details
• Vehicle history
